This course provides an introduction to the interdisciplinary field of Health Psychology, which examines the complex interactions between psychological, biological, and social factors in health and illness. Students will explore theoretical models and empirical research that explain how behavior, cognition, and emotion influence physical health and well-being. Key topics include stress and coping, health behaviors (such as diet, exercise, and substance use), patient–practitioner communication, adherence to medical treatment, and psychological aspects of chronic and life-threatening illnesses. The course also highlights applications of health psychology in clinical practice, health promotion, and public health interventions. By the end of the course, students will develop a critical understanding of how psychological principles can be applied to prevent illness, improve health outcomes, and enhance quality of life.
