This course introduces students to the scientific study of behavior and mental processes, providing a broad foundation in the field of psychology. Drawing from biological, cognitive, developmental, and social perspectives, students will explore the history of psychology, its major theoretical approaches, and its research methods.
Core topics include the biological bases of behavior, sensation and perception, states of consciousness, human development, learning, and memory. Emphasis is placed on understanding psychology as both a natural and social science, highlighting how empirical research informs our knowledge of the mind and behavior. By the end of the course, students will gain a foundational understanding of psychology’s key concepts and methods, preparing them for further study in specialized areas of the discipline.
