This course introduces the principles of patient safety with a focus on preventing medical mistakes through rational drug use, safe prescribing, and effective communication. Topics include rational versus irrational medication practices, prescription accuracy, routes of drug administration, risks of self-medication, patient adherence, medication errors, and adverse drug reactions. Students will also explore the role of patient counselling and drug information centres in promoting safe and effective medication use, while developing practical skills to minimize risks and enhance healthcare quality.
