This class will examine the importance of human interaction with the environment and culture; define the field of environmental psychology, its main concepts, theories and methods, develop environmental sensitivity, and understand human behavior within the social and physical environment, world, and the universe. The purpose of this course is to explain environmental psychological approaches and theories in relation with humans and their environmental relationships. Students will gain an understanding of environment and location and the large scale effects of the rapidly developing world on psychological phenomena. The goal of this course is to differentiate between “environmentally friendly” / “environmentally destructive” behaviors, the meaning of environmental psychology, examine research areas and provide a general perspective on future steps that are needed.
