The goal of this course is to teach the basics of learning psychology and examine how we learn. The biological basis of learning, behavioral approach, classical conditioning, instrumental conditioning, behavior modification, social cognitive theory, cognitive learning, memory, long term memory, developmental stages of learning, socio-cultural learning, metacognition and information transfer, problem solving and analytical thinking are taken into consideration when explaining how learning takes place. Students will choose a behavior they want to change or choose a new behavior they wish to acquire and attempt to change/acquire this behavior by the end of the semester and present their results with justifications. Students will gain an understanding of how difficult a process it is to change behavior especially with children.
