This course will cover topics health psychology covers, including key approaches concerning information transmission and research conducted in the field. The scope of the course covers the theoretical approaches from a biopsychosocial perspective and examines how the biological, psychological and social factors interact in the formation of stress, coping, acute, chronic and terminal diseases as well as recovery and rehabilitation as well as effective evaluation, preventive measures, and interventions used. Also, this course will cover the definitions of health and illness, health development, stress, social support, coping skills, nutrition, exercise, weight control, substance abuse, pain, and treatment modalities for chronic and acute disorders. Cutting edge research in health psychology will also be introduced, discussed using key theories and research methods.
