Organic chemistry provides the student with the necessary background to understand the chemistry of carbon-containing compounds. Topics will include nomenclature, structure, properties, reactions, and mechanisms of hydrocarbons, radical reactions, alkyl halides, alcohols, and ethers, aromatic compound, aldehydes and ketones, carboxylic acids, further topics include isomerization and stereochemistry.
